My wife was born in the Senegalese capital Dakar. When we go there together, family life and daily routines provide a window on a city that can be difficult to penetrate. It's easy to understand that Africans in general are not interested in being used as stereotypes of picturesque poverty, and the proud Senegalese are no exception. My goal was different, yet the same as always - how do I capture something of the spirit, the atmosphere, the textures of life in a way that feels true, fair, interesting, and hopefully unexpected?
