- cloudy/cool at least half the year
- English language
- small-scale architecture (preferably not newly built)
- small, cozy homes
- tolerant social norms
- diverse population
- arts/culture centered
- access to nature
- not dominated by rich people
- openness to outsiders
- modest/practical dress norms
- active, cared-for public space
- clean, trash-free
- walkable (car not needed)
- safe
- local/indie shops
- good and affordable health care
- simplicity
- bohemian atmosphere can be found
Then I realized many of these qualities exist to some degree where I’m from, Takoma Park MD.
